At Paxon SAS, if an emergency transport is needed for a student-athlete, he/she will mostly likely be taken to one of the two closest hospitals listed below:

  • Wolfson Children's Hospital: 800 Prudential Dr, Jacksonville, FL 32207 (904) 202-8000

  • UF Health Jacksonville: 655 8th St W, Jacksonville, FL 32209 (904) 224-0411

Wolfson Children's Hospital is the primary location for our student-athletes to be transported to unless the injury requires a level 1 trauma center. UF Health Jacksonville is the adult and pediatric Level I trauma program serving Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.

If parent/guardian is NOT available and more than one Paxon Coaches are at an event, it is required that one Paxon coaches or a Paxon administrator/ staff member goes with the student-athlete to the emergency room. Contact parent/guardian will be made in the timeliest manner.

Below are the EAPs for every athletic venue at Paxon School for Advanced Studies. The coaches review this before every season and are encouraged to practice this scenario with their athletes at the start of the season. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for creating, sharing and updating the EAP every year.

All DCPS coaches are required to be verified in CPR, the use of an AED, and first aid or coach’s safety training as taught by the Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program. Members of the coaching staff should NEVER attempt to render medical aid beyond their training or ability.

Do not allow an injured individual to be moved by teammates, coaches, officials, or spectators if a possible spinal injury is suspected. Immediately contact the Athletic Trainer and/or activate EMS.

At least one member of each team's coaching staff should have keys to access all gates/doors to their respective venues. Coaches should make sure these areas are free of obstructions during practices and games, in order to allow for passage of emergency vehicles or personnel should the need arise.
