THINGS TO DO THE SUMMER BEFORE SENIOR YEAR

  • Narrow down your college search-A safe number is between 3-6 schools. Even if your dream is to go out of state, be sure that you apply to at least 1 Florida school.

  • Schedule campus visits-Seeing a college campus online versus in person are two totally different experiences. After you have narrowed down your list, make an effort to visit each school’s campus.

  • Start working on your college application essay(s)-Looking up the prompts will give you a head start to make sure they are completed before the application deadline.

  • Browse and apply for scholarships-Don’t shy away from applying for scholarships that require an essay or are for what you consider to be a small amount. Every little bit helps.

  • Complete the Paxon Letter of Recommendation Information form-This will ensure that your letter of recommendation can be completed in a timely manner (2 weeks advanced notice is required when requesting a letter).

  • Plan to take/re-take the SAT and/or ACT-You are encouraged to take both the SAT and ACT at least 1 time. Remember, most schools super score so retaking a test may benefit you in the end.

  • Continue working on community service (CAS for IB students)-Be sure to document on the Paxon Community Service form (IB students, continue documenting CAS on ManageBac)

  • Be mindful of your social media posts-Colleges are checking social media for applicants more and more.

  • Breathe-Preparing for senior year can be overwhelming. As long as you have a plan and don’t procrastinate, you will be graduation ready in no time!!!
