Letters of Recommendation

Letters of recommendations for colleges, universities, and scholarships are used to provide both a summary of your academic and extracurricular involvements as well as insight into who you are as an individual.

If you need a letter of recommendation:

  1. Contact your school counselor and/or teacher either in person or via email AT LEAST TWO WEEKS prior to needing your letter of recommendation.

  2. Please complete and submit the forms below AT LEAST TWO WEEKS prior to when you need your completed letter of recommendation.

Please Note:

  • For school counselor recommendations, a letter will not automatically be written once you submit the form. You must contact your school counselor to request a letter.

  • For teacher recommendations, it is your responsibility to give the teacher a copy of the Teacher Recommendation Information Form (see section below on Requesting a Letter of Recommendation from a Teacher).

  • Please be as thorough and descriptive as possible when completing the form.

  • If you are applying through Common App, you do not need to request a letter from your school counselor. Your school counselor can look at the schools that you are applying to through Common App and see if any require a counselor recommendation. If they do, we will automatically complete the Counselor Recommendation as long as you have completed the Counselor Recommendation Information Form (see section below on Requesting a Letter of Recommendation from Your School Counselor). Be sure to add your school counselor's email as you are setting up your Common App profile in order for the student report and counselor report portions of the common application to be completed for you.

  • If you are applying directly through the college/university website, there may be a counselor or teacher form that is generated and emailed directly to your school counselor or teacher. Most schools want the letter to come directly from the school electronically, but you may be provided with a letter in a sealed envelope with the school counselor or teacher's signature across the back if needed.

  • If none of the above applies to you, please double check through the school's website whether they accept counselor or teacher recommendations. Some schools do not require recommendation letters and may explicitly say that they will not be reading letters sent in due to the volume of applications they receive.
