Financial Aid E-News for Students (April-May 2023)






Health Career Exploration Tour Student Application

This is a reminder for high school students interested in the healthcare field to apply to the Northeast Florida AHEC Health Career Exploration Tours.


The Health Career Exploration Tours (HCET) program is hosted by Northeast Florida AHEC and will take place June 20th – July 28th, 2023. The first two weeks of this program will be held in our office and will consist of a series of professional presentations, interactive discussions, SAT/ACT preparation course, Stop the Bleed course, and team-based activities that will help students gain a better understanding of the medical field, learn about specific careers, and gain insight on public health topics. Students will then be paired with community sites like Community Health Outreach, Volunteers in Medicine, and other organizations that work with medically underserved populations. This will be our 8th year holding this FREE program. Application due: May 23rd, 2023. Please see attached flyer for eligibility and application information.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Mayor’s Asian American Advisory Board (MAAAB) - $1000

The Mayor’s Asian American Advisory Board (MAAAB) is offering the Asian American High School Scholarship which consists of onetime gifts of $1,000.00 to three senior high school students for use at any accredited University or Community College. Eligibility requirements are:

  • Asian Descent

  • A resident of Duval County

  • A senior at a Duval County high school

  • In good academic standing

Completed and signed application, along with the letter of recommendation can be returned via email (in PDF) to MAAAB@coj.net, postmarked, or hand delivered to 1809 Art Museum Drive Suite 100, Jacksonville, FL 32207 by April 14, 2023. Application and the letter of recommendation must be typed. Recipient selection is based on:

  • Academic Rank and/or Hardship

  • Extracurricular Activities and Talents (ROTC, Sports, Creative Writing, and Arts)

  • Leadership Roles, Awards/Honors and Verified Community Involvement

  • Essay

  • Letter of Recommendation

COMMUNITY SERVICE/CAS OPPORTUNITY: Riverside Avondale Preservation's Teen Leaders Program

RAP is beginning a new program for local high school students to earn community service hours over the summer and throughout the school year.

While many of Paxon's students have already come to volunteer with us at the Riverside Arts Market, our new Riverside Avondale Preservation's Teen Leadership Program will give students a more specialized volunteer opportunity along with leadership skill development and the option to complete a project in an area of their interest.

Student Advocacy Training Institute

904WARD is looking for students (who will be rising 11th Grade through undergraduate college students or post high school graduate between 18-22 years of age) that are interested in learning more about advocacy this summer by joining us for a free daylong Student Advocacy Training Institute. It will take place Saturday, June 3rd from 9:30am-4:30pm. Students considered must have a passion for equity and justice with a commitment to develop and execute a self-paced related project over the summer. The Institute will host multiple local leaders involved in equity advocacy by showcasing various advocacy methods. Activism in art, education, civic engagement, organizing and more will be covered. The Institute will be in-person. Student must have transportation to and from the Institute, held in downtown Jacksonville. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided. There is no fee to attend; all costs will be covered by 904WARD. Applications will be collected until April 17th. Interviews will be scheduled after application deadline. Fifteen students will be selected from an interview process for an opportunity to receive seed funding for an advocacy project idea plus a stipend, as well as ongoing support for their project after a submission/review process.

2023 High School and Graduate Student Scholarships

The 2023 FSCA Scholarship applications are now available. FSCA will award four high school scholarships in the amount of $250 each, and three graduate student scholarships in the amount of $500 each. One of the four high school scholarships will be awarded to a child of a FSCA member! All application materials must be received by 5pm Friday, April 14, 2023. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: 2023 Mayor’s Asian American Advisory Board Asian American High School Scholarship

The City of Jacksonville’s Mayor’s Asian American Advisory Board is conducting a scholarship for Asian American High School students in April. The Scholarship will be awarded to three (4) top Asian American high school students in the amount of $1,000 each in May as part of our Asian American and Pacific Islander Celebration.


The deadline to apply is April 14, 2023 for consideration. See your school counselor and Teams for an application.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: The Citadel Church Jacksonville Scholarship

Candidate Eligibility Criteria

  • Students must be a senior in Duval County High School or enrolled in college full time or a

  • member of The Citadel Church.

  • Students must have maintained a 2.5 or above weighted GPA.

  • Students must submit two reference letters (non-family members).

  • Students must submit a typed double-spaced essay with a 500 minimum of no more than 700 words

  • describing how this scholarship will impact their college career.

  • Students must pursue higher education at a two-year or four-year institution of higher learning.

Completed applications are due on or before Friday, April 28, 2023 and can be submitted by email or mail. Email your school counselor for an application.






SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Douglas Anderson #107 Alumni Association, Inc. (Four $1000 Scholarships)

Douglas Anderson #107 Alumni Association, Inc. will award four $1,000.00 scholarships to deserving seniors who will graduate from a Duval County, Florida high school this year and attend an accredited college or university this fall. The Queen Elizabeth Bruton Scholarship for Education will be awarded to a graduating senior who attends a Historically Black College or University. The Sadie Jeffers Memorial Scholarship for the Arts will be awarded to a graduating senior who has matriculated in a program of the Arts. The Nathaniel S. Washington Scholarship for Community Service will be awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding community service. The Samuel Davis Jr. Scholarship for Leadership will be awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a history of Leadership. The members of the Scholarship Committee are soliciting your help in identifying students who qualify.


The selection of recipients will be based on the following criteria:

  • A required cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 weighted or 3.0 un-weighted and a combined SAT score of 1000 or above or an ACT composite of 22 or above.

  • Two references: Teacher and Community Member (Both reference letters must each be submitted in a separate sealed envelope and submitted along with the scholarship application).

  • A well-written formal letter from the applicant which clearly and completely details his or her educational goals.

  • Must be a relative of a graduate of Douglas Anderson #107 High School who attended prior to 1969. Relative’s name must be included in designated space on the application form.

The deadline for submitting all information is April 18, 2023 Information received after April 18, 2023 will disqualify the student. An official transcript must accompany each application. The student must send all information to:

High School 9:12 LandSouth Construction Scholarships

High School 9:12 has partnered with LandSouth Construction to provide eight high school seniors with a $2,500 scholarship. The deadline is April 28th.









Free College Admissions Workshops Coming Soon!!

SACAC will be hosting a FREE workshop for school counselors, students, and their families on Saturday, April 22nd at the Schultz Center. Please save the date and plan to attend as you prepare for your journey to college.
