Learning Lab Assistants are student leaders in grades 10-12 who are available during Paxon Learning Lab hours to provide academic assistance to their peers. Learning Lab Assistants also help students to identify outside resources/websites/apps, etc. that may provide additional help in working towards academic success. Learning Lab Assistants may earn community service/CAS for their time.

4). U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Virtual Q&A Admissions Session

You are invited to attend a virtual admissions Q&A session for students interested in attending the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), one of the five federal service academies that include West Point, Annapolis, Air Force, and Coast Guard academies.

Date: August 31, 2021

Time: 6 p.m. ET

Who: All interested students and guidance counselors

What: Virtual question and answer session with some of our outstanding Midshipmen. This will be the perfect opportunity to learn about the admissions process and what it’s really like to attend USMMA.

5). MOCA Teen Art Council (Community Service/CAS Opportunity)

MOCA Jacksonville Teen Art Council serves to empower local high school students by creating programming for teens, by teens. Members of Teen Art Council will meet bi-weekly in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 to learn about the Museum, engage with different departments, such as Education, Curatorial, and Marketing, develop mission-driven projects, and plan a new annual event for teenagers. As Teen Art Council members create and implement programs, they will effectively increase the accessibility and inclusivity of the Museum. Members of the Teen Art Council will earn volunteer hours for their participation.

Participation open to any high school student in Jacksonville.

Applications open August 2021 and will be available at mocajacksonville.unf.edu

To apply for MOCA Teen Art Council, candidates must meet these requirements:

  1. Be a 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grader during the 2021-2022 school year.

  2. Submit a completed application by September 3, 2021

  3. Teens interested in art, music, culture, museums and all types of creative outlets are welcome. You do not need to be an artist in order to apply!

  4. Have availability afterschool for Teen Art Council meetings twice a month from September 2021 through March 2022.

  5. Occasional Saturdays and event days are required beyond regular meeting times.

  6. MOCA Teen Art Council members are expected to follow the rules and guidelines of the program, participate in bi-weekly meetings and occasional events, complete group responsibilities such as art assignments, blog entries, audio/video content, and develop teen centered events for the museum.

7). Oberlin’s Multicultural Visit Program is accepting applications!

As the first college in the country to adopt a policy to admit students regardless of race, Oberlin College and Conservatory has a deep commitment to access and inclusion. That’s why we offer the Multicultural Visit Program. This all-expenses-paid trip to campus allows students to experience the vibrancy and diversity of a top liberal arts college that challenges convention, embraces difference, and encourages originality, as well as connect directly with our esteemed conservatory faculty and community. 8). District Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest - Grades 4 - 12

This year, District Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest is open to ALL 4 - 12 students in our district. We are excited to share that we have partnered with the Jaguars Foundation to honor our winners. There will be a winner for elementary, middle, and high. The dateline is September 15, 2021, by 5:00 pm. Submissions must be emailed from teachers to:

9). 2021 Bill of Rights High School Essay Contest

The Honorable Timothy J. Corrigan, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, as well as The Honorable Marcia Morales Howard, and The Honorable Brian J. Davis, Judges of the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida, announced the 2021 High School Essay Contest. The contest is open to all students currently in grades 10 through 12 who reside in counties in the Jacksonville Division (Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Duval, Flagler, Hamilton, Nassau, Putnam, St. Johns, Suwannee, and Union).


Students, Teachers, and Schools are eligible to receive a cash prize!

The deadline for submission of essays is September 24, 2021. More information on the 2021 High School Essay Contest can be found in the attachments to this email and on the contest website at www.flmd.uscourts.gov under the “Court in the Community” section.



10). Harvard Students Agencies Future Doctors Program

Harvard Students Agencies Future Doctors Program (www.learnwithleaders.com/futuredoctorsprogram) seeks to introduce students to the fundamentals of pre-medical studies (starting 18th September). The program guides students in depth through topics ranging from genetics to organic chemistry and higher order thinking skills necessary to succeed in the medical field.
