3). District Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest - Grades 4 - 12

This year, District Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest is open to ALL 4 - 12 students in our district. We are excited to share that we have partnered with the Jaguars Foundation to honor our winners. There will be a winner for elementary, middle, and high. The dateline is September 15, 2021, by 5:00 pm. Submissions must be emailed from teachers to:

4). SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: 2021 Heisman High School Scholarship Application Now Available

The program honors hundreds of the nation’s most accomplished, community-minded high school senior athletes each year. This year, the college scholarship amounts have been doubled, increasing support for each student-athlete’s education. Community-minded scholar-athletes can learn more and apply at https://heismanscholarship.com.



5). Mayor's Youth at Work Partnership

The MYAWP program provides eligible high school students work-related experiences that prepare them to succeed in employment. We partner with local businesses who employ and train students. Each student and employer will work with a Job Coach who will assist in the employment process, provide support, training and be a liaison between the student and employer. In addition to employment, students will develop social skills, learn work norms and culture, understand career pathways, build professional networks and learn to manage money.


To be eligible students must be:

· 16-21 years old

· enrolled in a Duval County public high school

· have at least a 2.0 GPA.


The deadline for students to apply is August 30th. Below is the link for students to sign up for the program.

7). Columbia Engineering Experience 2021 (Virtual)

On behalf of Columbia Engineering and Columbia Undergraduate Admissions, we would like to remind you about your students' invitation to apply for the Virtual Columbia Engineering Experience (CE2). If your students are interested in this free program, please remind them to submit their application online by Thursday, September 9, 2021. Due to the selectivity and limited size of the program, an application with a transcript is required. Students may self-report their transcripts. Please note that all students who apply to CE2 will receive a fee waiver in the general application process, no matter the CE2 decision. Please direct your students to our website for the online application and instructions.

9). SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Randolph Bracy Ocoee Scholarship Program – New for 2021-22

The 2021 Florida Legislature created the Randolph Bracy Ocoee Scholarship Program (Chapter 2021-36, Laws of Florida). This new program will provide up to 50 scholarships to eligible students who are either (1) a direct descendant of victims of the Ocoee Election Day Riots of November, 1920, or (2) a current African American resident of Ocoee, Florida, beginning with the 2021-22 academic year. Eligible students must attend a state university, public state college, or public postsecondary technical center in Florida and will receive an amount up to $6,100 annually not to exceed the amount of the student’s tuition and registration fees.


Students who are interested in applying for the scholarship should contact Ernestine Mitchell, Program Specialist, via email at Ernestine.Mitchell@fldoe.org, or call Customer Service at 888- 827-2004, no later than August 31, 2021.

11). SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTNITY: Jack Kent Cook Foundation

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is an amazing organization that supports high achieving low income students. The scholarships are highly competitive, but I know there are Paxon students that would qualify and should apply. Family gross income needs to be under $95,000 to be considered.
