1). Paxon Parent Evenings



2). COMMUNITY SERVICE/CAS OPPORTUNITY: Food Pantry Volunteers Needed - Mobile Food Pantry Distributions - September 11, 2021 If you are in need of community service hours please consider helping to distribute food to the community Saturday, September 11th from 6:30 am to 11 am. The distributions will be held at the Dedicated Senior Medical Center (3059 Edgewood Avenue West 32209). This event is being sponsored by the Shondo Foundation and all volunteers are welcome. Please be sure to complete the pre-approval form on the School Counseling website prior to the day of the event and remember all Paxon students need 75 hours of community service to graduate.

4). FSU Unconquered Scholars Program

Florida State University’s Unconquered Scholars Program provides an array of support services promoting overall success to youth who experienced foster care, homelessness, relative care, or ward of the State status. Click here for more information.



5). Apply to the FSU CARE Summer Bridge Program for 2022

The CARE Summer Bridge Program (SBP) provides a comprehensive program designed to ease the transition from high school to college while building a strong academic foundation. Applicants selected to participate in SBP will be first-generation college students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds who have demonstrated a strong desire to succeed. The CARE Summer Bridge Program is open to Florida residents who are either U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Click here for eligibility and to apply.



6). Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Career Exploration Day -- Invitation to Apply

Mayo Clinic is inviting 50 diverse high school juniors and seniors from Northeast Florida to participate in a virtual career exploration day on Saturday, November 6th, 2021 on a first come, first serve basis.


The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Career Exploration program will explore career opportunities beginning with the Phlebotomy Technician Program which is a nine week certification targeting students who want to jump start their healthcare career. Other laboratory professions will be explored too including Histology, Medical Laboratory Science, and Pathologists’ Assistants. Clinical laboratory professions offer competitive salaries, varied job opportunities, and unparalleled job security!


The MCSHS DLMP Career Exploration application cycle opens on September 1st and closes on Friday, September 17th, 2021. Apply at https://mccms.elluciancrmrecruit.com/Apply/Account/Login.

Application instructions: Complete the following steps to apply:

1. Create an account to begin the online Application for Admission

  • Select - Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences

  • Select following program:

2. Complete each section of the application and submit

3. After submission, view the required Supplemental Items and Documents

  • Upload the Personal Statement in the Supplemental Items section

Additional required items

Personal Statement to be 300-500 words and include the following.

o Why are you interested in a career in Laboratory Medicine and Pathology?

o Lab coat/Shirt Size

o Glove size (X-Small, Small, Medium, Large, X-Large)



7). SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Florida State Fair Art Portfolio Contest For High School Seniors

$6,500 in scholarship money will be awarded this year! First Place: $1500 • Second Place: $1000 • 10 Awards of Merit: $400 each. The deadline to enter is Friday, December 3rd, 2021. All entries must be completed online at http://www.juriedartservices.com



8). DCPS Suicide Prevention Month 2021

We are encouraging everyone to participate in DCPS’s Suicide Prevention Month’s district-wide activities throughout the month of September:

  • September 1 – 3: Seize The Awkward Week

  • September 6 – 10: Suicide Prevention Week

  • September 13 – 17: Reach Out Week

  • September 20 – 24: Save LGBT Lives Week

  • September 27 – 30: Walk To Fight Suicide Week


9). The University of Alabama Alumni Scholarship Assistance Program

High School students (9th-12th) interested in attending The University of Alabama are invited to an Alumni Scholarship Assistance Program session.

11). Need Tutoring? Paxon's Learning Lab Opens Sep. 13th

Paxon's Learning lab is a student-led tutoring resource that offers tutoring before school, during each lunch, and after school. Tutoring is by appointment only. 12). SUS Matrix (2021)

This past Wednesday, the school counselors attended a virtual State University Systems (SUS) workshop where all of Floridan's public universities offered information about trends in admissions. We have now placed on the 'College & Career Planning' section of our website a document which gives you info on the average SAT/ACT/GPA and other things related to admissions for these schools. (Please note: the GPA averages listed are weighted).
