2). Various SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Applications for The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida 2022 College Scholarships are now open. All scholarship applications are due by the close of business on March 15, 2022.


BYON M. MORRIS SCHOLARSHIP: The Byon M. Morris Scholarship will provide $4,000 ($1,000 per year for 4 years) to support tuition, books, fees, room &board, and degree-related expenses for one graduating senior who has attained Scouting’s highest ranks. One Eagle Scout (Boy Scouts) or one Gold Award winner (Girl Scouts), who demonstrates an aptitude and desire to succeed, will receive the scholarship. In selecting the successful candidate, the review committee will consider academic achievements, leadership experience, desire for personal growth and financial need. All applicants must have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average (weighted) and plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution on a full-time basis. DOROTHEA B. SHAW SCHOLARSHIP: The Dorothea B. Shaw Scholarship will provide $6,000 ($1,500 per year for 4 years) to support tuition, books, fees, room & board, and degree-related expenses for a student graduating from a Duval County public or private school and attending an accredited post-secondary institution in the Northeastern United States. Northeastern states are identified as: CT, MA, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, and VT. In selecting the successful candidate, the review committee will consider academic achievements, leadership experience, desire for personal growth and financial need. All applicants must have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average (weighted) and plan to attend on a fulltime basis. Housed at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, the Dorothea B. SAM AND LYDIA PAYNE SCHOLARSHIP: The Sam and Lydia Payne Scholarship will provide financial assistance for two students graduating from a North Florida public or private school who demonstrate an aptitude and desire to succeed. The scholarship will support tuition and books, up to $18,000 ($4,500 per year for 4 years) provided the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements. All applicants must have a cumulative 2.2-3.5 (weighted) grade point average and plan to take a full-time course load in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. In selecting the successful candidate, the review committee will consider a desire for personal growth and financial need. ELIZABETH EDGAR HALL FOUNDERS SCHOLARSHIP: The Elizabeth Edgar Hall Founders Scholarship will be awarded to one undergraduate female student who is completing/has recently completed her first year of undergraduate education and is on-track to receive her bachelor’s degree from Edward Waters University (EWU), Jacksonville University (JU), or University of North Florida (UNF). The award will provide up to $6,000 ($2,000/year for 3 years) provided the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements. DELLA M. LEVY SCHOLARSHIP FOR GRADUATE STUDIES: The Della M. Levy Scholarship for Graduate studies will award one female student who has completed her undergraduate studies and is pursuing a full-time graduate degree from either JU or UNF. The award of $4,500 can be used to support tuition, books, and other college related expenses in coordination with your Office of Financial Aid’s Cost of Attendance. 3). SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: FASFEPA Vivian Scott Scholarship Information

FASFEPA is delighted and honored to be able to offer the Vivian Scott Scholarship to graduating high school seniors planning to further their education. Below you will find a link to a Google Drive folder that has the information and application for the Vivian Scott Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded each year to two recipients in each of the five FASFEPA regions. You will use the Google Drive Folder link to download the application.

Google Drive Folder for Scholarship Application, Routing Form, and Scoring Criteria:

Student applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • Be a senior who is on track to graduate in May/June of 2022

  • Be eligible under current USDA guidelines as free or reduced-priced meals or Approved CEP Direct Certification for free or reduced lunch; and

  • Provide a publishable picture with the application to be used in an announcement and on the FASFEPA webpage.

Completed application packets are to be returned to you no later than March 14, 2022.

A Scholarship award announcement will be sent to both the recipient and district by April 11, 2022.

The scholarship award amount is $1,500 per recipient.

4). SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Colonial Dames 17th Century

The Florida Society Colonial Dames XVII Century sponsor a $1,000.00 scholarship to a Florida high school senior who will be attending a Florida four-year college or university or an accredited Florida community college. The student must be enrolled in college full time, show financial need and have a 3.0 GPA or above. The student must submit an acceptance letter from college of choice, a transcript of grades, two letters of reference, and one page telling his/her aims, ambitions and financial need. See your school counselor for an application.



5). SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Bridging the Dream Scholarship (due Feb. 28, 2022)


6). FREE Black History Month Events with Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp

Duval County Public Schools is proud to partner with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in bringing together two community events in commemoration of Black History Month. The events are presented through a collaboration with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the district’s African American History Task Force, the Department of Family and Community Engagement, and the district’s Parent Academy. Both event flyers are attached to share.

Family Movie Night: Red Tails

  • What: The community is invited to watch the courageous efforts of the Tuskegee Airmen in the film, “Red Tails.” Prior to the film, there will be a ceremony honoring Jacksonville natives who served as Tuskegee Airmen and a fact-filled Family Discussion Guide will be shared with families to enjoy while at the field.

  • When: Saturday, Feb. 12 at 5 PM

  • Where: 121 Financial Ballpark

  • Tickets: The first 2,000 attendees on the day of the event will receive free bowl seating. After the first 2,000 guests, bowl seating tickets are $1. Field seating tickets are $5. Heritage Classic: Raines vs. Ribault

  • What: Learn about the Negro American League through a baseball game between the Raines Vikings and the Ribault Trojans where they will wear Jacksonville Red Cap Negro American League jerseys as they take the field to compete for the A. Philip Randolph Cup.

  • When: Friday, Feb. 18 at 6:35 PM

  • Where: 121 Financial Ballpark

  • Tickets: A limited number of free general admission tickets are available to DCPS families. Parents/guardians can visit www.duvalschools.org/HeritageClassic to make their ticket request. General admission is $5.
