Mayor's Youth at Work Partnership Summer 2024

The Mayor’s Youth At Work Partnership’s Summer 2024 session will provide Duval County students with a paid work experience for up to 25 hours per week from June to July. In addition to the job placement, students also receive access to workforce development training, a job coach to guide them through the program, a VyStar bank account, direct deposit, and financial education with the chance to earn badges. The MYAWP team places students in job opportunities based on their interests, school schedules, extracurricular activities, and location. To be eligible students must be:

  • 16 - 21 years old.

  • enrolled in a high school, GED program, technical school, university, or college in Duval County.

CAS/Community Service Opportunity: MOSH Teen Volunteer Applications Reopening

The MOSH has reopened their teen volunteer application for this coming summer. This is a great opportunity for high school students ages 14 and older to earn volunteer hours towards Bright Futures, develop public speaking skills, and work towards earning the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

There are openings for both Discovery Teen Volunteers and Innovation Teen Volunteers. Discovery teen volunteers help lead activities with summer camp students and keep students engaged in learning about STEAM and History. Innovation teen volunteers help prepare for camps and lead demonstrations for museum visitors while the museum is open. Pre-Register for the 2024 Congressional App Challenge

The Congressional App Challenge is open for middle and high school students to pre-register.  Congressional App Challenge, click here.

 

Students can pre-register for the 2024 Congressional App Challenge and start coding their apps for 2024. If competing as a team, only one team member needs to pre-register.

 

All pre-registered students will be automatically enrolled in the 2024 Congressional App Challenge upon launch, May 1st.

 

The 2024 Congressional App Challenge will run till October 24th, 2024.

 

Never coded before, learn to Code with these resources which have partnered with the Congressional App Challenge: theCoderSchool, Apple Education!

West Point - Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) (for current juniors only)
  • SLE is a one-week program for current Juniors (High School Class of 2025) to visit West Point in June.

  • Students in this program get to spend the week with our cadets, live in the barracks, and eat in the mess hall.

  • Learn about West Point’s world class academics by trying 5 of our 17 academic workshops.

  • Learn about military training and becoming a Leader of Character at West Point by completing two military days to include rappelling, Zodiac boats, combatives (like Jiu-Jitsu) training and more!

  • Challenge themselves physically by attempting the Candidate Fitness Assessment, conducting physical training, and sports.

  • Complete their admissions interview with a cadet.

  • Spend the week making friends with other students from all over the US who are applying to West Point.

The Florida Society Colonial Dames XVII Century sponsor a $1,000.00 scholarship to a Florida high school senior who will be attending a Florida four-year college or university or an accredited Florida community college. Scholarship Opportunity: McDonald’s Black & Positively Golden Scholarship Program

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and McDonald’s are proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Sixty-Three (63) scholars will be selected to receive a scholarship up to $15,000 for the 2024-2025 academic school year ($7,500 per semester), which can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate freshman, sophomore, junior or senior attending HBCU during the 2024-2025 academic school year.

  • Current cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

  • Able to demonstrate leadership abilities.
