Virtual Events to learn about the college admissions process (sponsored by Coalition for College, Rice University, Emory University, and UChicago.

You are invited to join UChicago and a variety of their Coalition for College partners to learn about the ins and outs of the college admissions process. From May 21 – 24, you can learn about new, helpful college search resources, and celebrate all the hard work you all do! All events will be conducted virtually.






Preparing for AP Exams

Encourage your teen to use these six tips to build confidence and feel prepared on test day. Remind them to watch AP Daily: Practice Sessions, a new video series focused on practicing free-response and multiple-choice questions. Check the session schedule (.pdf/88.5 KB) to learn if recordings for their course are already available. And keep an eye out for the next batch of sessions being released on April 24 on YouTube and in AP Classroom.







2023 NLP Logix Analytics Summer Boot Camp

NLP Logix for the past eight years, has run a summer analytics boot camp for rising seniors in DCPS. The program will start Monday, June 26th and run for five weeks and end the week of July 30th. They are looking to get a class size of 12 students and ask that anyone recommended can do the entire camp with no restrictions on participation such as vacations, travel, etc. More detailed information can be found at the following web site: https://www.nlplogix.com/boot-camp/





Invitation to Exploring College Options: In-person and virtual student events

Exploring College Options is a special informational program sponsored by the undergraduate admissions offices of five of the country's leading universities: Duke University, Georgetown University, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Stanford University.


Representatives from each university will present information about their institution, discuss the application process, and answer questions on how to put together a strong and reflective application. Each program will end with breakout sessions where representatives will answer questions about their specific school and the application process. This spring, we are offering both in-person and virtual programs, with each program featuring the same content. Click here for more information and to register for in-person and virtual events.

CAS/Community Service Opportunity: MOSH Teen Volunteer Application - Summer volunteer application opens TODAY!

This summer, Discovery Teens and Innovation Teens will engage in different areas of the museum earning a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service eligible for Bright Future Scholarships. The AnnieRuth Foundation’s Summer Internship Program (for current juniors and sophomores)

The AnnieRuth Foundation is currently accepting applications for its 2024 Summer Internship Program. This program provides current high school sophomores or juniors an opportunity to develop personal, academic, and workforce readiness skills. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Emerging Stars Scholarship Essay Competition (for 10th & 11th Grade Students)

The competition is open to Tenth and Eleventh Grade High School Students for the 2022-2023 school year. The theme for this year is: “THE IMPORTANCE OF WHAT FIRST RESPONDERS DO”. This essay competition provides an opportunity for both young men and women currently enrolled in high school, to compete for a postsecondary educational scholarship. The students will be empowered to display their inner creativity, strengthen their self-confidence while sharpening their verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Students will be afforded a chance to win up to a $1,000 scholarship. Winners will be notified during the month of August. The Orientation session will provide specific details about the essay requirements, mentoring workshops and the 50 Stars Gala.


All contestants are required to meet the following criteria:

  • Have a minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA (Submit an unofficial copy of the High School transcript with the application)

  • Attend one Virtual Student/Parent Orientation Session- Saturday, June 3rd at 10 AM OR Thursday, June 8th at 7 PM

  • Attend all mentoring workshops (June and July dates will be announced during Orientation)

  • Attend the 50 Stars Gala-September 8, 2023, and the Gala Rehearsal (TBA)

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: The Empowered Seal Scholarship

The EVERFI Empowered Seal Student Scholarship is now open! Five scholarships ranging in value from $500 to $1,000 will be awarded this spring to students age 13+ who have completed at least 3 EVERFI lessons during the 2022-2023 school year are eligible to apply. Health Career Exploration Tour Student Application

This is a reminder for high school students interested in the healthcare field to apply to the Northeast Florida AHEC Health Career Exploration Tours.


The Health Career Exploration Tours (HCET) program is hosted by Northeast Florida AHEC and will take place June 20th – July 28th, 2023. The first two weeks of this program will be held in our office and will consist of a series of professional presentations, interactive discussions, SAT/ACT preparation course, Stop the Bleed course, and team-based activities that will help students gain a better understanding of the medical field, learn about specific careers, and gain insight on public health topics. Students will then be paired with community sites like Community Health Outreach, Volunteers in Medicine, and other organizations that work with medically underserved populations. This will be our 8th year holding this FREE program. Application due: May 23rd, 2023. Please see attached flyer for eligibility and application information.

While many of Paxon's students have already come to volunteer with us at the Riverside Arts Market, our new Riverside Avondale Preservation's Teen Leadership Program will give students a more specialized volunteer opportunity along with leadership skill development and the option to complete a project in an area of their interest.
