September is DCPS Suicide Prevention Month


COMMUNITY SERVICE/CAS OPPORTUNITY: International Coastal Cleanup this Saturday (Sep 16th)!

Earn community service hours by joining Timucuan Parks Foundation and Keep Jacksonville Beautiful for the International Coastal Cleanup, this Saturday, September 16!WHEN: Saturday, September 16, 2023 WHERE: Visit Keep Jacksonville Beautiful for a list of all the sites. Timucuan Parks Foundation will be hosting at two sites:

  • Reddie Point Preserve, 8 am to 10 am, 4499 Yachtsman Way, Jacksonville, FL 32277. Drive all the way to the end of the drive to the parking lot and walk to the pavilion near the fishing pier for sign in.

  • Fort Caroline National Memorial, 9 am to 11 am, 12713 Ft Caroline Rd, Jacksonville, FL, 32225. Meet in front of the visitor’s center

WHAT: International coastal cleanup event, including litter pickup and park maintenance. Suitable for all ages. Children under 16 must be supervised by their parent/guardian or youth leader during the project. Anyone under 18 years old must have signature of parent/ guardian on the liability waiver and photo release prior to starting work. Waiver and photo release can be found at https://www.timucuanparks.org/volunteer/ WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. We recommend that you bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, sunglasses and a full reuseable water bottle. WHAT WE PROVIDE: We will provide trash bags, latex gloves, more insect repellent, granola bar snacks, and more water. CONTACT: Felicia Boyd, Timucuan Parks Foundation, 904-463-1799, fboyd@timucuanparks.org One other thing - it will be high tide that morning so at Ft Caroline, volunteers may not be able to get down to the shoreline and may not actually find much other trash throughout the park. In addition to cleaning up litter, please take the opportunity of being at the park to explore the Visitor Center, the Timucuan Village, and the fort. You will still be credited your 2 hours. Mayor’s Youth at Work Partnership (MYAWP)

The Mayor’s Youth At Work Partnership’s Fall 2023 session will provide Duval County students with a paid work experience for up to 15 hours per week from September to December. In addition to the job placement, students also receive access to workforce development trainings, a job coach to guide them through the program, a VyStar bank account, direct deposit, and financial education with the chance to earn badges. The MYAWP team places students in job opportunities based on their interests, school schedules, extracurricular activities, and location.   • 16 - 21 years old.

2024 Coca-Cola Scholars Application (Open until Oct. 2nd)

The 2024 application for the Coca-Cola Scholarship (open to high school students who will graduate during the 2023-2024 academic year) will be available from our website August 1 through October 2, 2023. Note that we have an earlier deadline this year! Please plan to share this opportunity with your graduating students who are having a significant positive impact in your school and community through their leadership and service.




EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) Program

The Jacksonville (FL) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. invites you to join their 2023-2024 EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) Program where participants ages 11 to 18 will participate in activities, community service and educational workshops. Participants are expected to attend meetings from September 2023 through April 2024. Students should visit the Paxon School Counseling Team to download an application.
