The Emory Leadership, Enrichment, Advocacy, and Discovery (LEADs) Experience
The Emory LEADs Experience is designed to support the recruitment of talented, high-achieving high school seniors who are either first-generation college students and/or from underrepresented cultural or socioeconomic backgrounds, including, but not limited to, Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic, and Native/Indigenous student populations. The Emory LEADs Experience will be a hybrid program that will take place throughout the fall. The program will begin in September with monthly virtual programming. In addition, select students will also be invited to participate in our three-day, overnight Leadership Retreat in mid-October. Our monthly virtual webinars will conclude in December. Mayor’s Youth at Work Partnership (MYAWP)
The Mayor’s Youth At Work Partnership’s Fall 2023 session will provide Duval County students with a paid work experience for up to 15 hours per week from September to December. In addition to the job placement, students also receive access to workforce development trainings, a job coach to guide them through the program, a VyStar bank account, direct deposit, and financial education with the chance to earn badges. The MYAWP team places students in job opportunities based on their interests, school schedules, extracurricular activities, and location. The Gates Scholarship Application is Now Open! (due Sep. 15th)
The Gates Scholarship (TGS) is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to exceptional student leaders, with the intent of helping them realize their maximum potential. Selected Scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance to earn a bachelor’s degree, that is not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by a Scholar’s college or university. Costs covered include tuition, fees, books, and room and board, and may include additional personal costs. TGS also provides Scholars with various online support services designed to help them excel in their degree programs, graduate, and make a successful transition to their chosen careers. These include career services, mentoring, leadership development, wellness, and knowledge building. Eligibility requirements:
A high school senior
From at least one of the following ethnicities: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian/Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American
Pell-eligible
A US citizen, national, or permanent resident
In a good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
Additionally, a student must plan to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university. *For American Indian/Alaska Native, proof of tribal enrollment will be required. An ideal candidate will also have:
An outstanding academic record in high school (in the top 10% of his/her graduating class)
Demonstrated leadership ability (e.g., as shown through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities)
Exceptional personal success skills (e.g., emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, etc.)

2024 Coca-Cola Scholars Application (Open until Oct. 2nd)
The 2024 application for the Coca-Cola Scholarship (open to high school students who will graduate during the 2023-2024 academic year) will be available from our website August 1 through October 2, 2023. Note that we have an earlier deadline this year! Please plan to share this opportunity with your graduating students who are having a significant positive impact in your school and community through their leadership and service.

EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) Program
The Jacksonville (FL) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. invites you to join their 2023-2024 EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) Program where participants ages 11 to 18 will participate in activities, community service and educational workshops. Participants are expected to attend meetings from September 2023 through April 2024. Students should visit the Paxon School Counseling Team to download an application.
